Good overnight stop for us. Our back-in site was level and we didn’t have to unhitch our tow vehicle. The sites around us had a decent amount of space between them. The campground is an older, established campground that has been in the same family for several years. It has gravel interior roads, good grass coverage, and mature trees and shrubs. The services we used worked well (water, electric, Wi-Fi). The campground has common water hydrants that are centrally located and can be a bit long to reach from some sites. Bath and toilet facilities were very clean though the facilities were older and not well lit. The host was welcoming and our reservation and check-in went smoothly. The mile of Forevergreen Road leading to the campground is rough in patches. We would stay at Colony Country again as an overnight stop or as a destination.

Timberline is an older campground that still captures the camping spirit of an earlier time. During our stay, many of the campground guests came in pop-ups and tents as well as smaller travel trailers and cab over truck campers. Because it is an older campground, the sites and interior roads are more conducive to smaller RV's and trailers. Sites are smaller and the turning radius in the campground can be a challenge. Open space that is easier to access is set aside for the larger travel trailers, motor homes and 5th wheels. Timberline appears to have repeat visitors who have been coming to the campground for several years. The campground has several farm type buildings and a wide variety of mature shade trees reflecting its original use as a boys’ ranch in the 1940’s and transition into a campground over the years since then. Large grassy areas, pavilions, and group fire pits are scattered throughout the campground. Our pad was gravel and level while on a slope to facilitate drainage from rain water. Our site had shade, a picnic table on a concrete pad, and a fire ring. The services we used worked well (30 amp electricity, water, sewer, Wi-Fi). The two bathrooms with showers under the main office were clean and air conditioned. The freestanding bathhouse by the pool was not as clean during our stay. The doors to the bathhouse don’t easily shut tight so they are often left ajar and bugs and flying insects get into the building. The toilet stalls in the main bathhouse are extremely small and tight. During our stay, the trash dumpsters filled up quickly and stayed full. We did hear sounds from the trap shooting range occasionally yet they were not bothersome to us especially inside our trailer. Timberline is participating in an effort to convert cropland into conservation cover for butterflies, birds and cleaner water. The result is that a portion of the campground has lush plantings of grasses and wildflowers that attract several varieties of birds and butterflies. The campground is very much in a country setting yet within a 10 minute drive from West Des Moines and other communities with a wide variety of services, restaurants, grocery stores, and retail.

Ladybug is a very nice private RV park and campground with new owners who are making improvements to the facility. It is ideal for an overnight stay or as a destination campground. All the services we used worked well (30 amp electric, water, sewer). The sites are gravel and grass and nicely spaced with fire rings and picnic tables at each site. The bathhouse is functional and clean. A pavilion and newly renovated swimming pool are on the campground. Open fields, treed areas, and a nice pond are also part of the landscape. Even though the campground does not offer Wi-Fi or television service, the nightly rate is a good value for the amenities and setting. The campground does offer a pleasant country and park setting that is easily accessible from Interstate 44 (exit 203) and Historic Route 66. The nearest retail, groceries, gas stations, and restaurants are in Cuba (Exit 208) or St. James (Exit 195). We have found Ladybug to be a good midway stopping point when we travel across Missouri. The hosts are friendly, hard working, and attentive. We will definitely be repeat visitors to Ladybug.

This is an RV park that is part of the casino and horse racetrack. Most campsite pads are light gravel and dirt. The park does have a few paved sites. However, they were reserved for the weekend’s event competitors and vendors. This review is about the gravel and dirt pads. Site drainage and standing water are an issue when it rains; dust is an issue when it isn’t raining. Sewer connection was a broken pipe sticking out of the ground. Wi-Fi connectivity was weak and sporadic. Water and 30 amp power services that we used were adequate. Check-in is inside the casino. The RV park does not take reservations. The park appears to be a secondary operation to the casino and does not appear to have designated park staff. RV site pads are located on either side of the main access road to the casino and racetrack. The RV park access roads can be used as overflow parking by the casino and were during our stay. During race events, traffic to and from the casino can be heavy. We attended an event that was held at the casino but not related to horse racing or casino activities. During our stay, site work had begun to convert the RV park into a franchise campground. The bathhouse was available yet under renovation. The women’s side of the bathhouse was clean; the men’s side was not. A new playground for children was completed. However, no special child-friendly activities and events appeared to be offered. We would not actively recommend this RV park as an overnight or stopover unless your main objective is to be close to the casino and racetrack events.

Whittington Woods Campground is another private campground that is being brought back to life by hard working new owners. Whittington Woods is a new name and its new owners have made dramatic improvements. The owners have brought grass back to the campground and restored a woods-like setting to the landscaping. They’ve put fresh gravel at site pads and reworked service hookups. All the services we used were excellent (Wi-Fi, water, sewer, 30 amp electric). Some sites are available in more open sections of the campground for big rigs and for satellite reception. Tent sites are also available. The RV sites were level, well graveled, and nicely spaced. Distances are a little bit long for some service hook-ups at some sites. An extra length of hose or cord for water, power, or sewer connections may be needed. We stayed at Whittington Woods as part of a rally event. The hosts were helpful and gracious as they worked with the rally coordinator and participants to make the event pleasant and successful. The new hand laid stone fire ring and the spacious pavilion are ideal for group activities in any weather. The bathhouse facilities were being upgraded and were clean and available. As we left, the new swimming pool had been completed and was being filled. The campground is easy to find at Exit 77 off Interstate 57 and about 1/2 mile towards Benton on Hwy 37. With the woods as a buffer, interstate noise was not intrusive. The campground has a great proximity to Rend Lake and the lake activities, to the Artisan Center, local wineries, antique shops in Benton, and events in Du Quoin, IL. We will definitely be return guests to Whittington Woods. The campground is a great destination place for rallies, family reunions, and social gatherings as well as overnight stops.

An earlier RV Park Review suggested giving Aurora Oaks a try because the campground is under new ownership and the new owners are working diligently to bring the campground back to life. We stayed at Aurora Oaks based on that review and we absolutely agree. This campground is a pleasant place to stay. We rated the facility a 7 primarily because the bathroom/bathhouse hadn’t been renovated when we were there and did need attention. The results of the new owner’s efforts to improve the facility and plans for expanding services will earn it higher ratings in the future. The campground is quiet and away from traffic. It is convenient to several attractions without being on a major highway or thoroughfare. The entry drive is on the north side of the road. The campground sign and street sign are posted yet not glaringly obvious. The sites were adequately spaced though somewhat out of level. We used our leveling blocks so leveling was not an issue. The campground is in the midst of the beautiful hills and lake country of Western Kentucky. All of the services we used worked fine and were reliable (30 amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi). We used a pressure reducer for the water supply which had excellent water pressure. When electrical storms rolled through one night, the hosts turned off the Wi-Fi server to prevent damage to the system. The server was immediately brought back up after the storm. Aurora Oaks has a helpful and attentive host family. Periodic activities are held for the seasonal campers. Overnight (non seasonal) campers are welcome to join in. We will stay at Aurora Oaks again and do recommend it as an overnight stop and, even more, as a destination.

We had a great experience. We stayed at Stagecoach RV Park while we attended a rally. Our nightly rate reflects the rally rate. The owners were friendly and attentive and gracious hosts for our rally. We extended our stay a couple of days to explore Branson and Eureka Springs, AR. The park location was quiet and convenient to most of the Branson sites without being in the heaviest traffic. The park roads were easy to navigate so we came and went from the park with ease. Our site (#24) was nice and wide and level. The cable was excellent and offered a variety of music and television stations. The WiFi worked well with multiple transmission sites throughout the park. All of the service connections were well maintained. The electric, water, and sewer were all good. We had sewer hook-ups at the back and the middle of our site. The bathhouse was very dated yet very clean. The owner has plans to build a new bathhouse. The owners reside in the park and have implemented their plans for improvements to the facility. Work had started on a new swimming pool and hot tub complex before we left. The restaurant that is part of the park is closed as renovation is underway with plans to reopen it. The rally used the clean and convenient clubhouse for potluck dinners and events. We will absolutely stay here again and may plan our drive to destinations in the area around a stay at Stagecoach. We stayed at this campground one night each way to and from Branson. The campground is located about a quarter of a mile off Interstate 44. Restaurants and retail are not nearby; but are available in Sullivan a few miles up the frontage road. We did not hear interstate traffic. The gravel site did have a slight slope but that helped it drain well. We had to use boards to level from side to side and noticed that others had done the same. The only television stations available are those that can be received with an antenna. The services we used worked (water, sewer, 30 amp power, Wi-Fi). The electrical service at our site was located very close to the ground so we had to make sure our electrical cord stayed properly seated. The bathhouse and bathrooms were not as clean as one would expect during off season and immediately after their scheduled cleaning hours. The fixtures showed their age and the floors needed to be swept and mopped. We would stay at this campground again for an overnight stop. However, it is not a great value for the price.

One of the nicest KOA’s we have experienced over the last year. We stayed at this KOA four nights while we attended an event in Hot Springs. The location was close enough to downtown Hot Springs to be convenient yet far enough away that we felt like we were in a woods setting. A state highway and county road are nearby yet did not create problems for us. We did notice that several tent campers were in sites only a few feet from the county road. Other tent sites were also available throughout the campground. The campground is built into a shaded, treed hillside so it was especially helpful that the camp workers escorted us to our site and made sure we were settled before leaving. The campground staff were helpful and friendly. All of the services we used worked well (30 amp power, water, sewer). We did notice that the cable TV hookup was at the far front of our site. The Wi-Fi was slow at times yet was accessible. We paid extra for 3 days of all day Wi-Fi access in addition to the one hour a day that was provided free of charge. While we were there, the on site cafe served breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings for a reasonable price. The offerings were similar to breakfast at a fast food restaurant and were a nice alternative to fixing breakfast at your camp site. The campground is nicely landscaped and has fun yard art sculptures in the flower beds and gardens. The bathrooms and showers were absolutely impeccably clean – all day and night during our stay. We would definitely stay in this RV park again.

We used this RV park for an overnight stay en route to Arkansas. The reservation and check in process was smooth and the office folks were very friendly and helpful. The directions on the RV park web site were helpful. The park is similar to some we’ve stayed in that are right off an interstate or in fairground RV parks. The site was gravel and fairly level. The services we used at our site worked well (30 amp power, water, sewer, Wi-Fi). The bathhouse/shower rooms and their cleanliness were adequate. The swimming pool appeared to be clean and well maintained. The park is near retail and residential areas. During our stay, site work was being done on the property next to the RV park. The work crews quit working during the evening and night. The walking trail in the park is grass and not well defined. Future plans have the trail connecting to a community walking trail with improvements occurring when that connection occurs. Fast food restaurants and retail are conveniently close to the park and downtown Cape Girardeau is a just a short drive. Our friends who live in the area said that the Mexican restaurant right by the park is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Cape Girardeau area. We will stay in this RV park again.

This is a lovely campground and we would definitely stay here again – in cooler weather during the off season for camping. We were next to the river but the view was obscured by the trees and growth. We could occasionally hear boats going past. The campground was extremely crowded the weekend of our stay which meant more people using the bathhouse and toilets. The campground staff could not keep up with cleaning the facilities during high traffic times. Earlier in the year the campground was under water so much sand remained from the flooding. Our site had full hook-ups including sewer. The electric power quality was good. The water connection couldn’t be tightened enough to prevent a small continuous spray that kept the area wet around it. We could not pick up any AM or FM radio stations. Some campers who had satellite dishes did have television reception. However, most cell phones could not get a signal. This was August so we did have bugs and gnat type flies in abundance. Mosquitoes didn’t seem to be a huge problem. The area has lots of trees that add to the woodsy setting. The trees had started to drop some leaves, some walnuts and sap. The campground is well patrolled and quiet hours seem to be enforced. Our directions from Internet mapping services were inaccurate for this area. We found it best to use the directions provided by the campground website. If you miss the turn into the campground entrance, it’s hard to find a place to turn around. This is a very scenic campground and we plan to return.

This campground is located off Interstate 40 about 7 miles from Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City and about 16 miles from Bricktown in downtown Oklahoma City. The campground is far enough from the interstate to be away from highway noise. We stayed here for a family gathering. The owners and staff worked with us and graciously answered our questions as we made our plans and asked for sites in close proximity to each other. The campground buildings, sites and grounds were very clean and well maintained. We did have to watch for poison ivy around our sites and along the nature trail. All the hook-ups we used were in good working order (30 amp electricity, water, sewer, WiFi). Our travel site was gravel and reasonably level. The swimming pool and playground were clean and very well maintained. The restrooms were kept spotless even during busy times. We will definitely stay here again. Our family stayed in one of the lodge type cabins.

The owners are extremely gracious and friendly. As we pulled into the campground, we were met in the drive and welcomed by name. Everything the owners say that they will provide is provided and is great. The hook-ups we used were all in good order (30 amp electricity, water, sewer, WiFi). Water pressure was great and the sites were fairly level and easy to access. The WiFi was among the fastest and most stable we have experienced so far. The swimming pool was very clean as was the entire facility. The RV Park is located right off Interstate 44 in Marshfield (Exit 100). While there is highway noise, it was not a problem for us especially in the summer with our air conditioner running. Some road construction is underway around the park entrance yet the construction and traffic were not a problem. A few chain restaurants are located within easy walking distance of the park. One restaurant is located in the same building as the RV park office and mini mart. The restaurant shares the restroom facilities with the RV park. We would have rated this RV park a 9 if there were more privacy in the restrooms and not so much noise from the traffic on the northbound on ramp. We will definitely stay here again because of the hospitality of the current ownership.

We would definitely stay at the Expo Square RV Park again. We had visited the park and talked with the hosts several weeks before staying so we knew what to expect in terms of events and amenities. We lived in a neighborhood near the fairgrounds for several years so we knew the neighborhood well. We enjoyed being back in familiar surroundings and were glad to see the fairgrounds prospering. The downside to the prosperity is all the construction on the fairgrounds/county property. The construction work does stop at the end of the day. We stayed 4 nights in a 29 ft. travel trailer and left just as the park was filling up for a world championship horse show. We were in a pull through site and able to park our tow vehicle in the vacant site next to ours. Our site was level and the hook-ups we used (30 amp electricity, water, and sewer) worked well. We did not choose to buy the WiFi service which was $3.95 a day. The facility is very clean. Six separate shower/toilet rooms offer privacy. However, they do get heavy usage. The shower heads and faucets in particular are showing the wear and tear. We agree with the previous reviewers who mention that there is little shade in what is essentially a parking lot with full hook-ups. We also agree that the RV Park is busy and crowded during events such as horse shows and fairs. A schedule of events is available on the park website. For us, this park is an excellent option when we are in Tulsa. It is centrally located and within a quarter mile of restaurants, shopping and events. The hosts were gracious and worked with us on our site assignment. We enjoyed our stay and we will be back.

We attended a rally at Moraine View. The campground was pleasant and quiet during the week. Over the weekend as the campground was almost full, the bathhouse facilities were not as clean and the campground noise level was higher. The playground is located next to the bathhouse and kids appeared to treat the bathhouse as part of the playground. That made it sometimes difficult to get to the bathhouse. The facilities are not adequate for a full campground. Some kids rode their bicycles on sidewalks and walkways fast enough to be of concern to pedestrians. The campground hosts were pleasant, helpful and very much present on the site. When storms and tornado warnings went into effect, the hosts made sure campers knew to take shelter in the bathhouse – and we did. The campground only has electric hookups on the sites. Water spigots are available but are few and far between. Two dump stations are available. The water which may have been potable was far from clear. The campsites are nicely spaced among large mature trees. The playground was a nice playground though close to the bathhouse. The campground is a popular site with families for tent camping and activities such as fishing, swimming in the beach, hiking, and biking. The campground is far enough from major roads to be a quiet campground. We would camp here again.

We camped here in a travel trailer. The KOA is a small one located out in the country. It is one of the quietest we've stayed in for city and highway noise. The sites are close together yet it seemed that the owners take that into consideration as they make site assignments. The bathhouse and campground are showing their age. The pool was clean and had a playground and mini golf course nearby. We noticed several tent campers and lots of families with children on the weekend. The bathhouse ran out of paper towels mid afternoon one day and had not been refilled mid morning the next day. We had WIFI connectivity all but a few hours one evening yet it was a slow connection. Our power cord was not long enough to reach the electric hookup and the owner lent us an extension cord during our stay. When storms came through and the tornado sirens went off, the owner came out in the storm to let us know that we could seek shelter in their basement. The owners were very much on site and available during our stay. The KOA appears to be a weekend family destination. We were able to find the campground with a map and by following the KOA signs along the way once we left Interstate 55.

Located in Marion, Illinois, at Interstate 57 exit 53. You can see the interstate from the campground yet the noise was not a problem for us. Inside our trailer, soft music, a radio or fan masked any traffic noise. We especially liked the campground’s proximity to so many Marion restaurants, shopping and services, though they are not within walking distance. The campground is located near residences that do have dogs. We were aware of the dogs and some did wander onto the campground yet did not create problems. Several campers also had dogs. The sites are gravel and fairly level with grass between them. Some of the sites are more narrow than others. The hook ups were good. The water pressure was a bit low sometimes. We had WI-FI connectivity 3 of the 4 days were there. The bathrooms and laundry facility were spotless and secured with key code entry. The campground wasn’t crowded the four nights we were there. It was a pleasant atmosphere, a very quiet and clean campground. We will definitely stay there again. The campground owner was extremely friendly and helpful during the reservation process and during our stay.

We stayed at the park twice in April 2008 in a 29 ft. travel trailer. We were on the side of the park with larger sites. Our sites were fairly level with all hook ups functioning. Every one of the staff that we interacted with on the phone and in person was friendly and helpful. The Casino security, shuttle van drivers and landscaping crews all waved as we walked or drove past them. The mini mart is well stocked and we found the staff very friendly. The restrooms and shower were small, clean and basic. A note on the shower said to let the water run 3 to 5 minutes to get warm. The sink faucets are the kind that you push to turn on and automatically shut off after a few seconds. Not many people appear to use the shower facilities. The men's restroom had two sinks. One sink was not working. The restrooms and laundry are accessible with a card key that is provided when you check in. Shuttle service is available to the Casino and to the MetroLink. The campground does have trains that pass by, planes that fly over, and traffic on the interstate highways by it. However, the noise didn't interfere with our sleep. The city noise, lights and view of the St. Louis Arch added to the exciting atmosphere. The biggest disappointment was that the only Internet connectivity the campground offers is through a dial up connection. The sites are well maintained yet the two we stayed in were littered with cigarette butts from previous campers. We will definitely stay at this RV park again. We find it a great option for stopping for the night and for those times when we want to spend a few days visiting St. Louis. We felt very safe during our stays because Security does have a strong 7x24 on-site presence. During our April stay, the many trees were in full bloom with white blossoms.

Compton Ridge Campground has recently changed ownership. We attended a rally in the North campground in a 29 ft travel trailer for three nights. When we made reservations, we requested a site that was easy to back into. We were assigned site 24 in the North campground. It was difficult to back into especially since recent rains had created a gully at the front of the site and someone was parked directly across from the site. Upon our arrival, we asked that the gully be filled. It had not been filled when we left. The gravel sites were not level. The sites throughout the North campground are back-in and are all tight to negotiate. The bath house is clean but not heated. A portable heater appeared on the women's side but provided minimal heat since the main bathhouse door is louvered to the open air. Temperatures were in the 40's at night while we were there. WiFi and Internet connectivity were supposed to be in place when we arrived but only worked for a portion of the first day of our stay. Even though the WiFi problems were reported, they were not resolved while we were there. In the campground pavilion, not all electrical outlets were operable. The campground is nicely wooded and was quiet while we were there. We would only stay at the North Campground again if we attended a rally or another function based at the campground.

Stayed one night after picking up newly purchased vintage travel trailer in Charlotte. Campground is close to Camping World. KOA hosts were friendly and welcoming. As requested, they assigned us a good easy to access site as new RVer's. The site and location suited our needs as a one night stopover on the way back to Northern Illinois. Very clean restrooms and showers. Would stay in again as an overnight stopover. Easy access to and from the the interstate. We didn't notice the road noise that much.

Seemed to be a smaller campground and sites. Hosts were very helpful as we made last minute reservations via e-mail and cell phone. They did give us a level, easy to access site as we requested. I never could get WIFI connection working. I had no problem with it in two other KOA's on that trip. We arrived about 7 in the evening and left early the next morning. Restrooms and showers were clean. OK for stopover on way to another destination.
